Remove a stuck vape tank or coil with dry rubber grip and steady hand pressure, then stop before the glass, threads, or battery connector moves.
A stuck tank is usually a grip problem, dried e-liquid, or overtightened threads. The safe fix starts by separating mechanical resistance from device damage.

The Safe Removal Decision Path
Use this order on a cool device. Each step has a firm stop point.
- Turn the device off and remove any removable batteries.
- Empty the tank if its fill system allows safe draining.
- Wipe every gripping surface until it is dry.
- Check the manual for threaded, press-fit, or twist-lock construction.
- Hold the metal base, not the glass or airflow ring.
- Try steady counterclockwise pressure with a rubber grip.
- Stop if another part moves, bends, cracks, or heats.
Do not fire or charge the device to loosen a part. Heat can thin liquid and hide a damaged connection.
The FDA tells users to follow the maker's care instructions. It also advises replacement of wet or damaged removable batteries (FDA, 2026).
First Identify What Is Stuck
The word "coil" can describe two different assemblies. The correct grip depends on the design.

Innokin's Zlide uses a bottom cap and a removable coil. The tank can also be unscrewed for glass service (Innokin, 2026).
Vaporesso's iTank uses a pull-and-push coil design. Turning that coil like a threaded head applies force in the wrong direction (Vaporesso, 2026).
If the manual is missing, inspect the replacement coil. Threads, straight sealing rings, or locking tabs usually reveal the attachment type.
Remove a Tank Stuck on the Mod
Keep the tank upright if it still contains liquid. Wrap the tank's metal base with a dry rubber jar pad.
Hold the mod close to its 510 connector. Turn the tank base counterclockwise with slow, even pressure.
Do not squeeze the glass. Do not grip the adjustable airflow ring because it can rotate without loosening the base.
If the tank does not move, add a second rubber pad to the mod body. Try once more with both hands close together.
Stop if the entire 510 connector turns inside the mod. That movement can twist internal wires or loosen the connector plate.
Stop if the mod case flexes, opens, or becomes warm. A connector fault belongs in the atomizer error guide, not a stronger-grip attempt.
Remove a Coil Stuck in the Tank
Remove the tank from the device first. Drain the liquid through its normal opening when possible.
Place the tank on a paper towel. Remove the base according to the manual.
For a threaded coil, wrap its exposed metal body with a narrow rubber grip. Turn counterclockwise without squeezing the center tube.
For a press-fit coil, pull straight down. A gentle side-to-side rock can release an O-ring, but keep the movement small.
Geekvape's Z Subohm Tank 5 instructions show base removal before coil service. They also specify a supplied tool for coil removal (Geekvape, 2026).
Use a maker-supplied coil tool when one came with the tank. Do not substitute a knife, drill bit, or self-tapping screw.
Replace a distorted coil rather than reinstalling it. Follow the coil priming guide before using its replacement.
Improve Grip Without Damaging Parts
Rubber increases friction without putting teeth into metal. A clean nitrile glove, silicone pad, or wide rubber band can work.
Use only enough pressure to prevent slipping. More squeeze can crack glass or deform a thin coil shell.
Do not use these methods:
- Bare pliers on glass, threads, or the battery body.
- A bench vise around an assembled tank.
- Open flame, a torch, boiling water, or a freezer.
- Glue, thread locker, or penetrating oil near the liquid path.
- Repeated firing to heat the connection.
Pliers can be a last shop tool for a discarded metal coil after full tank disassembly. The coil must never return to service.

Stop When Removal Becomes a Repair
Safe removal ends when the device needs disassembly, internal access, or destructive force.
Stop and replace or seek service when:
- Tank glass is chipped, cracked, or separating from a seal.
- The 510 plate lifts or rotates with the tank.
- Threads shed metal, bind at an angle, or visibly flatten.
- Liquid has entered the battery housing or control buttons.
- A removable battery wrap is torn or wet.
- A built-in battery device is dented, swollen, hot, or hissing.
Do not open a sealed battery device. Move it away from flammable materials and follow the maker's support process.

Prevent the Next Stuck Tank or Coil
Install parts on clean, dry threads. Start every threaded part by hand.
Turn backward slightly until the threads settle. Then tighten clockwise only until the seal seats.
Do not use tools for normal installation. O-rings make the liquid seal, so extra torque rarely helps.

Replace cut, flattened, or swollen O-rings with the exact size listed for the tank. A wrong seal can bind parts or leak.
